This is a deckle-edged blank journal sewn on linen tapes. The paper is Mohawk superfine 80lb text eggshell finish. It is bradel bound with split boards. The headbands are silk on hemp cores. The bookcloth is black silk and the paper is a gold on red. Made as a gift, the recipient's name is sewn into the first signature.
I really love this book! The cover is beautiful and intriguing, and I love the details like the torn paper and the handsewn headbands. The whole book is really elegant! I'm just learning how to bind books, and I delight in seeing really well-crafted books like this - how the cloth folds at the corners and how the signatures all align so evenly. I really like the use of gold here; it's beautiful and not overdone.
Well, I cheated a bit on the signature ends being so even--they're guillotined. That was a design choice though to counterpoint the torn fore edge. Thanks.
