The text block is 20 three folio signatures of Mohawk Superfine 80# text. The original sheets are 9x12.5 inches folded and hand deckled to 5 7/8 and trimmed at the head and tail to 8 1/4 inches. To vary the edge pattern, I fold the signatures, deckle, and then flip alternate pages within the signature.
The endsheets are two folio Canson Mi-Teintes (dark green) sewn into the rest of the textblock. Text block is sewn with 25/3 vintage linen thread on linen tapes.
Headbands are hand sewn silk (three colors) around hemp cores. The spine is lined with the same paper as the block.
Cover is attached by split board (bradel) method. The spine is covered (and cornered) in off-white Japanese silk bookcloth. the cover paper is a Japanese Chiyogami (Yuzen).
The box is a standard clamshell with the same cloth and paper on the exterior. The trays and covers are .098 gray board. The tray sides are wrapped in white Mohawk Superfine 80# text and lined with the same Chiyogami paper.
The case and journal are imprinted with the recipient's name using hot type in a Qwik-Foil machine. PVA glue (and a 70% PVA/30% Methyl cellulose mixture) is used throughout.
Wow, this looks like you put a lot of time and effort and love into it! It's all so well crafted. I really like the limited colours and the intricate patterns and the tiny spots of red. The hand sewn endbands are so beautiful, too! And I love deckled pages. You did a great job.
Thank you. I am rather happy with it. The paper does deckle well, and I like trimming the head and tail for contrast. The cover paper was a real find. Next time I use a light paper though, I'll be sure to line the edges of the board as well (there's a bit of a color shift on the edges since the cover boards are covered in white paper).

Thank you. I picked up the paper in Berkeley at the Japanese paper place on 4th Street (Miki's Paper). I've seen the same pattern recently at Asakichi in Japantown in San Francisco (which frankly has better selection and price).

Haha! I live in Sweden and have never been to San Francisco, but thanks for telling me. Maybe they have a website I can find. And if not there are a lot of other beautiful papers out there in the world.
