Birthday Journal and Caseby ~usagibrian

Artisan Crafts / Folding & Papercraft / Bookbinding & Bookmaking

This is the first of "birthday journals" I made for a friend having a large, round birthday this year. The text block is 80lb Mowhawk Superfine with a deckled foreedge and sewn double endpapers. The block is sewn on three tapes with a three color silk single core headband. The second page is custom printed for the recipient and sewn in the first signature.

The textblock is rounded and backed in a split board binding. The spine bookcloth is brown, the paper is a Japanese mulberry paper with a gold dot pattern (two layers), and the foreedge cloth is powder blue.

The case is built from the journal dimensions and covered with the same materials. The blue paper on the trays is a dyed lokta.
